On October 7, the Sustainability Cluster Latvia, in cooperation with Amber Advisory,
organized a think tank attended by representatives from the freight and municipal transport sectors to discuss the possibilities for sustainable transport development in Latvia. The aim of the discussion was to jointly define the first steps toward developing effective solutions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the transport sector, which is currently one of the major polluters in Latvia.
The think tank was attended by industry experts and entrepreneurs, who highlighted the key issues related to decarbonizing freight transport:
They exchanged experiences and best practices from other European Union countries where decarbonization measures are already being implemented.
They discussed the necessary support mechanisms, including EU fund financing, tax policies, and other instruments that would facilitate the transport sector’s transition to more environmentally friendly solutions.
Participants emphasized that freight and municipal transport companies already have the opportunity to start investing in sustainable solutions. These investments would not only help reduce greenhouse gas emissions but also enhance the companies’ competitiveness in the global market, meeting the growing demand for environmentally friendly transport solutions and enabling access to European Union funding.
The goal is to jointly develop a sustainable transport system that will be ready for future challenges and help position Latvia as a leader in achieving climate neutrality targets.
