On February 28, in Riga, our association hosted an event that brought together industry professionals—freight transport companies, infrastructure developers, and policymakers—to jointly explore future opportunities for the development of sustainable transport in Latvia.

During the meeting, discussions focused on:

The availability of EU funds and other financial instruments that could support infrastructure development and the acquisition of zero-emission freight vehicles;

Tax incentives and other support mechanisms to promote sustainable transport.

Currently, Latvia lacks national support mechanisms for the decarbonization of heavy-duty transport, unlike neighbouring countries. Such mechanisms are urgently needed—ranging from support for the purchase of zero-emission freight vehicles to the development of appropriate charging and refuelling infrastructure. Industry representatives emphasized that the absence of such support is hindering the development of a sustainable transport system and affecting the competitiveness of companies in the region.

This was the first working meeting, and we are continuing our efforts—the next discussion is already planned for March! Together, we aim to find solutions that will drive practical action and secure political support for the advancement of sustainable transport in Latvia.
